Natural Heritage Under Threat

The Protected Green Buffer Zone is Under Threat — Your Voice Matters!

Many locals are shocked to learn that despite the Northern Inter-Urban Break (NIUB - which is the green space between the coast and Brisbane) being protected in perpetuity under the SEQ Regional Plan, a large caravan park and major festival site is now being reconsidered after the Minister called in the development — even though the State Assessment and Referral Agency recommended refusal. Their decision was based on clear conflicts with planning protections and serious concerns about environmental and amenity impacts.

Through our Voices of Fisher community consultations, we heard clearly that:

  • people on the Coast deeply value our natural heritage and green spaces, and
  • they want decision-makers to listen to them — not override well-established protections.

This is one of those moments when speaking up truly matters. If we don’t act now, we risk losing something irreplaceable — a landscape that protects our lifestyle, our environment and waterways, and the character of our region.

👉 Your submission could help stop development in an area that was never meant to be built on.
👉 It only takes a few minutes, and numbers matter.

Let’s show the Minister that our community expects respect and deserves to be listened to.

Make your submission before December 8th. Details here: https://www.scec.org.au/../help-preserve-the-interurban-break
