Fisher Says: Give Us a Fair Return on Our Gas

Sign the petition — and make sure Canberra hears us

Australia exports more gas than almost any nation on earth. Gas companies are booking record revenues. And Australians are paying some of the highest energy prices in the world.

A 25% gas export tax could raise $17 billion every year. Imagine what that could mean — better hospitals, cheaper childcare, more teachers in our classrooms, real action on housing affordability, and energy bills that don't keep climbing.

Our gas belongs to us, not to foreign companies. It's time we got a fair return.

In Norway, gas companies are heavily taxed - and Norway has built a sovereign wealth fund of over $2 trillion for its people. In Australia, many gas exporters pay next to nothing. You can see just how much Australia has missed out on, ticking away in real time, here. That's not a fair go.

The gas industry will tell you they already pay billions in tax. What they won't tell you is that's standard corporate tax all companies pay - not a fair return for the gas they're taking from all of us.

Punter's Politics' Konrad Benjamin, one of the key advocates for a gas export tax, is joining us at our sold-out event Fair Go or Fake News? this May. The conversation is well and truly underway - now let's make sure Canberra knows exactly what we expect them to do.

If you agree it's time Australians got a fair return on our resources  instead of letting multinationals exploit them for next to nothing - add your name.

We'll be sending this petition directly to the decision-makers in Canberra to make sure they know what we in Fisher want them to do

The ask..

We call on the Albanese Government to give Australians a fair go from our gas exports - a  tax that ensures Australians get a proper return on resources that belong to all of us.
