Our Story

We believe everyone deserves a voice in shaping the future we share. We come together because we care deeply about what makes this place special - our stunning coastline and hinterland, the small communities where we know our neighbours, and the natural environment that draws people here from across Australia. Voices of Fisher began when locals looked at politics that too often rewards parties over people and said, “We can do better.” So we started with listening - thousands of conversations across the coast and hinterland that revealed shared hopes, concerns and a desire for a more open, honest and community-led kind of politics. From that listening grew a movement of locals working together to strengthen our community’s voice and build a better future for Fisher.

How We Began

March 2024 - Neighbours Come Together A group of locals gathered to talk about what was happening in Fisher and explore how community voices could be heard more clearly in decision-making.
Mid–Late 2024 - Fisher Speaks through Kitchen Table Conversations across the Coast and hinterland, locals shared their experiences, hopes and concerns. These insights became the Fisher Speaks report, capturing what matters most to our community.
December 2024 - A Community-Backed Independent Steps Forward Fisher’s first ever community-backed independent candidate was announced - emerging from months of listening and supported by many involved in Voices of Fisher.
May 2025 - Election Day Fisher came within a few thousand votes of electing a community independent. The campaign energised thousands of people and confirmed just how much appetite there is for a better kind of politics.
2025 onwards - Growing Community Leadership After the election, Voices of Fisher has returned to its roots: to listen, connect and develop community leadership - creating ways for people to stay involved and keep shaping Fisher’s future.

Who We Are Today

Voices of Fisher is a growing community of locals who care deeply about this place. From the coastline to the hinterland, from long-time residents to families who’ve recently made Fisher home, we’re neighbours who want decisions shaped by listening, local insight and genuine community experience. We believe politics works best when it begins with community and is guided by real people’s lives. We believe Fisher deserves an approach to politics where our representative is open, honest and accountable to the community. And we believe in building a future shaped by the strengths, hopes and ideas of the people who live here.

We are a community of people with different backgrounds, skills and experiences - parents, small-business owners, nurses, tradies, teachers, retirees, first-time voters, long-time locals and more.

What connects us is simple: we care about Fisher, and we want a better future for everyone who calls this place home.
