A Time for Bravery: In Conversation with Leanne Minshull

Gather from 5.30pm | Event starts 6pm | Concludes 7.15pm

We're living through Interesting times, indeed. Here in Australia and around the world, the old certainties are shifting, and the question being asked, loudly and urgently, is: who is willing to step up?

Voices of Fisher is thrilled to welcome Leanne Minshull, Co-CEO of the Australia Institute and contributor to the book, A Time for Bravery, to the Sunshine Coast for an evening exploring exactly that. What does it look like to exercise your courage muscle? How do we stand up for our values when it would be easier to stay quiet? And what becomes possible when enough people decide to do it?

Leanne brings a rare blend of experience to the conversation. Admitted as a solicitor in 1999, she has spent her career as a senior strategist across social, environmental and political organisations, building a wide network of colleagues across politics, activism, business and the global stage. She's widely admired for her innovation, entrepreneurial flair, and her knack for finding solutions when things are in flux, not just when the path ahead is clear.

In recent years Leanne has added small business owner to her resume, running the Ferntree Tavern in Tasmania, while also serving as Director of the Australia Institute Tasmania. In that role she worked with stakeholders across the state on social, economic and education reform, and collaborated closely with her national colleagues on the issues shaping Australia's future.

Leanne is also a strong supporter of a 25% gas export levy, and has gone a step further by calling for a plebiscite on the issue, so confident are she and the Australia Institute that Australians would back it overwhelmingly if given the chance to vote directly. It's a cause close to home here in Fisher, and we expect it to be part of a wide-ranging and candid conversation on the night.

The evening will be facilitated by Steven Lang, director of Outspoken Maleny and one of the Sunshine Coast's most skilled and well-known conversation hosts.

Join us at the charming Eudlo Hall for drinks and canapés from 5.30pm, before a conversation that asks us all to consider where we might find a little more bravery in our own lives, and why this matters more than ever now.

Tickets are $25, including your welcome drink and canapés.

At a time when it's tempting to keep our heads down, this is an evening to be reminded that things only get better when good people speak up and step up.

Tickets available now.
